preppy edgy mom Jessi bordi

Whether she’s making beautiful illustrations as part of Hazel and Grace Illustrations, or enjoying time with her family, Preppy Edgy Mom on the Street Jessi Bordi has a classic, yet fashion-forward style.

Meet Jessi

I am a Virginia Beach native, living here with my husband and two boys. I am a stay at home mom who has turned my passion of drawing and creating into a business as a freelance illustrator specializing in portrait illustration. In my free time I can be outside walking/running/biking or enjoying the beach.

Preppy Edgy Style

Which three words best describe your style? Comfortable, preppy with a little edge.

What are your favorite places to shop? When I was younger I loved finding really cool thrift store finds, but now I rely on Stitch Fix to shop for me. I know it’s always going to fit.

Who’s your favorite style icon? Olivia Palermo, Brigitte Bardot, and Jacqueline Bisset ( I love a good safari inspired jacket and minimal accessories.)

What’s your best style advice? Buy the classics.

What article of clothing/accessory would you not want to live without? V neck T-shirt and a great pair of jeans.

Which trend would you want to see make a comeback? It seems like every good style makes a comeback at some point.

What should NEVER make a comeback? Mc Hammer pants… and they did make a comeback in the yoga lines and they just need to go away.

What fashion/style did you love at the time, but now cringe when you see old photos? Hemp! I had hemp in my hair, necklaces made out of hemp and handbags.

What’s your best style secret? A little heel goes a long way especially when you are 5’2

Stilettos or flats? It depends on the occasion but for everyday I need those flats to chase two kiddos around.

Preppy Edgy Family

What’s your favorite way to spend time with your family? A day at the bay is our favorite for our family. We enjoy good weather and being outside. Yard work can be a fun family activity too.

What’s been your best family vacation? So far it’s been a trip down to South Carolina. We stayed at a great resort that was family friendly right on beach, it was easy to relax. It s nice when we put our phones down.

Best parenting advice: First off, you are doing the best that you can! Second try to remember to respond rather react. Take a moment to breath and remember setting the example.

Parenting true confession: I laugh so hard at my BK (before kids) self a lot. I thought my kids would be eating vegetables and that has been a huge fail.

What’s your go-to family dinner? Pasta! My husbands family is Italian so all things pasta.

What’s your favorite family restaurant? We like places that are kid friendly so Shorebreak and Balyhoos have been popular for us.

Preppy Edgy Life

What’s your favorite show to binge watch? We do like our tv shows… right now of course Game of Thrones and This is Us.What’s your favorite beach read? At the beach a magazine but before bed I like spiritual or devotional books. Brené Brown is always a good read. What’s the best song to dance to when nobody’s watching? I can pretty much find a reason to dance to any song.If you could go shopping with anyone from history, living or deceased, who would it be? Maybe my grandmothers… they passed when I was younger so it would be nice to spend quality time with them as women. What’s at the top of your travel bucket list? Australia always comes to mind and we would like to go back to Italy. We went for our honeymoon and made the best memories. What’s your favorite way to unwind at the end of a long day? Good food, maybe a glass of wine with my husband on the couch.

Your Preppy Edgy Style

We love how Jessi sticks to classic styles, but adds a little twist to make the styles her own. She’s a great reminder that comfort and style are NOT mutually exclusive, as she wears cool and stylish outfits that fit into her active lifestyle as a mom of 2. She also incorporates so much of her style into her gorgeous illustrations at Hazel & Grace, so be sure to check out her beautiful work, especially her portraits!
