Impressionist Artist Mom on the Street Rebecca Hoyle lives to capture the beautiful moments in life, especially her South Carolina nature surroundings. This artist’s life is filled with tradition, family, travel, and art, all celebrated in her own unique style.

Meet Rebecca

Rebecca Hoyle is a modern impressionist oil painter. Her canvas is a visual expression of her connection to light and how it impacts environmental elements and landscapes of her local and travel experiences. “Nature can be breathtaking, and I strive to capture and share the experience through visual expression of that moment with my audience.” Rebecca often paints Plein air and works from her photographs as inspiration for her paintings. They evolve through the use of defined strokes and the interaction of bold colors.

Rebecca earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Art and Design with a minor in Architecture from North Carolina State University.  She went on to earn a Master’s Degree in the Art of Teaching Art Education at East Carolina University and was an art instructor for 8 years. Over the past 15 years, her art has evolved and expanded into different mediums, focusing on oil paintings.  She was selected to participate in a summer contemporary painting class at the Art Institute of Chicago, which further instilled a strong passion to study under and collaborate with other professional artists. Hoyle’s work has been shown at the “Eye Level Art Gallery” and the “Ellis Nicholson Gallery” in Charleston, South Carolina.  Her paintings were also featured in a contemporary painting show at the Art Institute of Chicago.

Impressionist Artist Work

Have you always enjoyed art, or was it something you recently began to love?/what motivated you to start painting? I have loved art since middle school, when my art teacher took me under her wing in 6th grade. She gave me the support and encouragement I needed to sprout confidence within myself and my work. I ended up pursuing art in college, graduating with a degree in art and design and a minor in architecture. Finally, I went on to get my master’s in Art Education with a focus on painting. Art has really guided my life and continues to play a huge role in who I am as a person.

What is the inspiration behind your work? My work is greatly influenced by my experiences in everyday life. The outdoors is probably my greatest inspiration. I always take my son on walks and outings, and I frequently draw inspiration from the world around us. We travel as much as possible, and I often channel those experiences into my artwork. Overall, I search for beauty in everything and try to convey that through my paintings.

What do you enjoy painting most? My go-to subject matter is landscapes. I love the freedom that comes with these paintings and how I can really channel my creativity. These include coastal landscapes, mountains, florals, etc.!

What sort of materials do you use for your paintings? I use oil paints exclusively. I mostly paint on canvas; however, recently, I did a few releases of mini-paintings on oil paper. It was really fun to challenge myself with a new surface!

Friends and Family Support

Do your husband and friends support you as an artist? If so, how do they help you in your work/artist endeavors? My friends and family are super supportive and are always there when I need them. Whether it be to help packing and shipping during the busy holiday season or helping to transport my larger paintings, I know that I can count on them.

What is it like to be a new mom and artist? Being a new mom and an artist can only be described as a balancing act. Obviously, my child comes first, but that doesn’t mean I let my work fall on the back burner. I juggle preschool pick-up, nap time, and productivity on a daily basis. It isn’t always easy, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything!

Where can one see your work or purchase your work? (social media and website) My website is www.rebeccahoyle.com, and you can follow me on Instagram @rebeccahoyle.

Impressionist Artist Family

What’s your favorite way to spend time with your family? I love spending time with my entire family at my mom’s house. She has an amazing backyard overlooking the marsh. We have made so many special memories there, and it has a certain warmth that just feels like home.

What’s been your best family vacation? My favorite family vacation spot is Ocean Isle Beach in North Carolina. It has been a family tradition to go there every summer since my childhood, and I love that I get to pass that experience on to my son. It is such a sentimental place for my entire family.

Best parenting advice: Don’t put too much pressure on yourself as a new parent! Trust your instincts and spend time enjoying parenthood rather than worrying about every little thing.

Parenting true confession: My child loves to hang out underneath the easel when he has a room full of toys across the house…

What’s your favorite family restaurant? Coastal Crust

What’s your favorite show to binge-watch?

“This Is Us”

What’s at the top of your travel bucket list?

Traveling across Europe! However, I am hoping that it becomes less of a bucket-list item and more of a reality as the pandemic retreats. I have always prioritized travel and learning about different cultures. I cannot wait until I begin to travel internationally again with my family.

What’s your favorite way to unwind at the end of a long day?

Dinner with family or friends, a glass of wine, or painting.
