Mom on the Street Chelsea Starr family

Whether she's helping clients design their dream house or on an Alaskan adventure with her family, Feminine Chic Mom on the Street Chelsea Starr has a classic and gorgeous style.

Meet Chelsea

I am currently a native Floridian living in Alaska for my second time, boy mama of 2 boys (Elliott age 2, Rhys age 6 months), Coast Guard Wife (I.E. Alaska Living) and part-time online Interior Designer. I attended the University of Florida and received my Bachelor's degree in design. I took my first job at a small architecture firm in DC, planting myself in an amazing church and group of friends where I ultimately met my husband at a "Friendsgiving" dinner. I'm an avid runner as well as a baker of delicious treats and love to craft and read in my downtime. I always wanted to be a stay-at-home mom and my husband works incredibly hard to make that dream a reality. I never thought I would be a military spouse, but God placed in me a desire to travel and always be on the move, and this lifestyle is just that! Our life is often crazy and chaotic, sometimes separated by deployment, but we find so much joy in the time we do have together. We love to adventure and parenting has shown to be the biggest adventure of them all!

Feminine Chic Style

Which three words best describe your style? Feminine, Boho Chic, Classic

What are your favorite places to shop? Anything online (Hello living in Alaska), Gap usually, Madewell for pieces I want to spend more on but have longer…recently I really like Altar'd State.

Who’s your favorite style icon? Kate Middleton

What’s your best style advice? Be comfortable. Dress to feel like yourself not someone else. Err on the side of caution and overdress for an event instead of being underdressed. Subtle fake eyelashes always make you feel pretty!

What article of clothing/accessory would you not want to live without? My husband's sweatshirts 😉 and good pair of leggings. I love being in comfy clothes at home, almost as soon as we get in the door I will throw on sweats or leggings.

Which trend would you want to see make a comeback? I would love to see overalls make a comeback. I think they can be super cute styled in different ways.

What should NEVER make a comeback? Puka shell necklaces

What fashion/style did you love at the time, but now cringe when you see old photos? Soooo many options for this question. I look back at some of my "looks" in school and many make me cringe. The mid-drift, belly-baring look and the slicked back with gel ponytail so that no wipsies stuck out in middle school…the "scrunched" gelled hair in high school. What were we thinking?!

What's your style secret? I love a good pair of fake eyelashes. Even with little makeup, they can make your eyes pop and eyes are one of my favorite features. Stilettos or flats? I love heels when I have the chance to wear them! We currently live in Kodiak, AK so I am typically always overdressed when I wear them 😉

Feminine Chic Parenting

What’s your favorite way to spend time with your family? My favorite way to spend time with my family is outdoors. We love to hike, take the dogs to run at the "beach" (Alaska's beaches are typically rocky and cold), go for walks, etc. I love to run with my kiddos. We love being outdoors and being active.

Best parenting advice: You are not in control, give yourself and your kiddos ALL THE GRACE. I am learning to be a parent at the same time my kiddos are growing up and learning how to interact with this world. It's hard for everyone. Grace goes a long way in reacting with love instead of anger.

Parenting True Confession: Parenting is HARD. I used to think I was "busy" before I had kiddos, now I have no idea what I did with all of that free time. Parenting is the most rewarding yet most challenging thing I have ever done. In those moments of anger and frustration, it has really shown me just how selfish I still am (or want to be) with my time.

Feminine Chic Family

What's your go-to family dinner: We love to cook, though, in all honesty, I loved to cook way more when it was just my husband and me 😉 More time and less pickiness. We use our Sous Vide Wand and smoker the most out of all of our cooking toys. The wand is super easy and the proteins that come out of it are so tender, melt in your mouth good.
What’s your favorite family restaurant? We love Chick-fil-A. As a Coast Guard family, we have done a few cross country moves and have routinely gone out of our way or planned the legs of our drives to center around a Chick-Fil-A stop. It's HARD living in Alaska without a Chick-Fil-A.

What’s been your best family vacation? Our best family vacation has been our trip to Atlantis. We went almost a year ago with our then one and a half-year-old and we had a blast. He loved the fish tanks and the kid pools, the sunshine was amazing, and experiencing it through his eyes was worth all the hassle of getting down there with a little!

What’s at the top of your travel bucket list? Top of our travel bucket list is New Zealand or Greece, preferably kid-free at this stage in our lives 😉 I would love to go on a trip to either of those places with my husband and stay for a few weeks. We did Australia for our honeymoon and almost everyone we met while down there said, "You have to go to New Zealand!" We would also love to climb Machu Picchu at some point, or anywhere we can scuba dive!

Feminine Chic Life

What's your favorite show to binge-watch? My favorite show to binge-watch is Grey's Anatomy. I have been watching it since high school and I still will watch reruns with the kids are napping and Ian is at work.

If you could pick anyone to star as you in a movie based on your life, who would it be? I would have to pick Julia Roberts or Natalie Portman. They are two of my all-time favorite stars.

What's your favorite beach-read? My favorite beach read is Firefly Lane by Kristin Hannah. I could read it over and over again. Also, I am always a sucker for the Harry Potter series. I read them at least once a year!

What's the best song to dance to when nobody's watching? The best song to dance to when no-one is watching is definitely "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" for an oldie, or "Thunder" is a more recent favorite.

If you could go shopping with anyone from history, living or deceased, who would it be? I would have to pick my best friend! She lives in Chicago now and we live everywhere, so we don't get to see each other enough! We always have so much fun together, and she has great style. She has known me since I was in third grade, so there is never a dull moment with us!

What’s your favorite way to unwind at the end of a long day? Favorite way to unwind at the end of the day is to take a hot shower, get in my pj's, and binge-watch something with my husband and possibly a glass of wine… Oh, and definitely chocolate. Give me all the chocolate.

Your Feminine Chic Style

With a busy life as a military spouse with two boys, Chelsea still manages to keep a feminine, yet effortlessly chic style that keeps her feeling confident and comfortable. We love the way she tackles her Alaskan adventures with grace and style!
