Eclectic Vintage Style

Which three words best describe your style? I need more than 3 words! T-shirts, cashmere, and double gauze woven textiles!

What are your favorite places to shop? Any thrift store! My favorite is the CHKD thrift on VB Blvd. LABL VB in The Collective is another Virginia Beach favorite. I love Lauren Manoogian and Ace&Jig but mostly buy them used on Instagram. Also, I love trading clothes on Instagram!  I have a secret account that I use for BST (buy, sell, trade).

Who’s your favorite style icon? Amy Murphy! My sister in law is always the best dressed. She consistently knows what is going to be in style 2 years before everyone else. She has the best taste and best recommendations of what to buy. I pretty much copy whatever she wears (if I can pull it off)!!!!

What’s your best style advice? Wear whatever makes you feel good and don’t worry if anyone else likes it! Find what you love and buy it used. You can find anything on the internet! There is way too much waste (including old clothes) to buy new stuff. I buy used quality items that I can often pass on when I want to shop again.

Past and Present Style

What article of clothing/accessory would you not want to live without? Plain grey American Apparel T-shirt

What should NEVER make a comeback? I love being a grown up and wearing whatever I want and not worrying about what anyone else thinks! I never want to go back to a time when I dressed for anyone else. Last week I was so tired from my kids taking turns being up at night that I wore TWO DIFFERENT SHOES! One was black and one was light brown. Everyone knows I’m a pretty adventurous dresser so everyone thought I did it on purpose. Judging other people’s clothes should never make a comeback!

What fashion/style did you love at the time, but now cringe when you see old photos? I used to try and dress like Gwen Stefani. Neon sports bra with baggy neon pants.

What’s your best style secret? Putting on comfortable clothes in textiles that make me feel happy. I think if a piece makes you feel good it will look good!

Stilettos or flats?: Flaxes don’t wear shoes.

Family Life

What’s your favorite way to spend time with your family? Camping!

What’s been your best family vacation? We went camping in Tennessee in the path of totality during the last solar eclipse. We were so happy sleeping outside and letting the kids run free that we stayed an extra day.

Best parenting advice: Teach your kids to meditate. Teach them that reduce, reuse, and recycle isn’t good enough anymore. We need to focus on REUSE!

Parenting true confession: I always keep the TV shows my kids watch in Spanish and I have no idea if they understand it (I don’t!).

What’s your go-to family dinner? If I’m being honest, it’s apples and peanut butter with cucumbers and ranch. If they refuse the peanut butter then we do plain Greek yogurt with a little honey.

What’s your favorite family restaurant? Our favorite restaurant in the world is Mizunos

Eclectic Vintage Lifestyle

What’s your favorite show to binge watch? The best show ever is 90-day Fiancé: Before the 90 days.

What’s your favorite beach read? Yeah right! You can’t read on the beach with 3 kids! The last book I read camping was "Into the Wild". I spent so much time on each page because I never wanted it to end.

What’s the best song to dance to when nobody’s watching? "Anything" by Justin Timberlake

If you could go shopping with anyone from history, living or deceased, who would it be?

Oh my gosh! So many ways to answer this. First, I would want to go with Meliva Meric-Einstein. I would love to talk to her about space-time! We would go to Nordstroms and sit on the floor in one of the lounges with notebooks. THEN, Michelle and Barack would have lunch with my husband me in the Nord's Cafe because they needed my advice on climate change science. After lunch, they would drop my sister, mom, and me off in NYC for some real shopping because we were just using Nordstrom for the lounge.

What’s at the top of your travel bucket list? Switzerland

What’s your favorite way to unwind at the end of a long day? Snuggling with my kids
