Modern Professional Working Mom

Which three words best describe your style? Modern, accessorized, and professional.

What are your favorite places to shop online? Zara and Neiman Marcus.

Who’s your favorite style icon? I love anyone whose style evolves with age.  Gwen Stefani is “Just A Girl” that I admire.

What’s your best style advice? Be intentional when adding luxury items to your wardrobe. Think long-term when you invest, not just in the moment.

What article of clothing/accessory would you not want to live without? A cashmere wrap. The right wrap can elevate any outfit.

Which trend would you want to see make a comeback? Jean jackets and sundresses.

What should NEVER make a comeback?  The sneaker wedge. Some things just don’t mix together. I luckily never took part in that trend.

What fashion/style did you love at the time, but now cringe when you see old photos? I’m a child of the ’80s so parachute pants by Forenza was one. I don’t cringe when I see pics because they were so in fashion at the time but you would never catch me in them now.

What’s your best style secret? When I don’t have time to get my nails done I still put on clear nail polish. That little bit of shine always makes your hands look healthy and polished.

Stilettos or flats? Stylish flats with pointed toes.

Modern Professional Family

What’s your favorite way to spend time with your family? We play a lot of games while we eat dinner. Mexican Dominos is a favorite. We pretty much keep it set up on the dining room table all the time.

What’s been your best family vacation? My kids go to overnight camp on an island on Lake Winnipesaukee in NH where I went as a kid. Each year before dropping them off we visit a camp friend of mine who has a place on a different island. We look forward to this every year because it’s a special place for our family. We are a New England family at heart.

Best parenting advice: Plan birthday trips with your kids. I rotate turns taking my boys on just a mother/ son trip somewhere that they have never been before. I plan something specific and then build the trip around that. Last year, I took my son to Philadelphia for the Chinese lantern festival and ended the trip on a ropes/ zip line course. I cherish this one on one time and know they will remember these trips.

Parenting true confession: Sometimes when my kids are acting up I secretly wish that someday their kids act the same way. I believe in karma. It’s only fair.

What’s your go-to family dinner? Chicken parmesan.

What’s your favorite family restaurant delivery? It sounds so boring but we are a pizza family, NYC style.

Modern Professional Life

What’s your favorite mom life hack after a long day of work? The ponytail. There is something that about putting my hair in a ponytail as I’m packing up at work that signifies the end to the day for me. Plus it gives me a fresh look.

What’s your favorite part about being a working mom? Definitely leading by example. I want to show my kids that you have to work hard, be consistent, and find balance.

What’s your secret to juggling kids and work while still looking polished? I keep an organized closet by work clothes and casual clothes. I don’t plan my outfits in advance because I like to dress the way I feel but when I walk into my closet in the morning I have a sense of which direction to head towards.

What’s one thing every working mom should have in their purse? A leather wallet from Italy or Spain. That’s where the best leather is produced and your wallet should feel good in your hand. Also, I’m a fan of bright colored wallets. It’s an element of surprise. You can have a black bag and then bring out a bright pink wallet and it’s like a “hello” moment.

Your Modern Professional Life

What’s your favorite show to binge-watch? My husband and I just wrapped up all 3 seasons of Ozark during the quarantine. I love watching a show and then being like “Who writes this stuff? What twisted soul could think that up?”

If you could pick anyone to star as you in a movie based on your life, who would it be? Probably Jennifer Garner. She just seems like a genuinely happy person all the time and that’s how I like to live my life.

What book is by your nightstand and why? I would love to say that I have some cool book next to me about self-improvement, but all I have is my exam books as I am always prepping for my next industry test.

What song would you dance to when nobody’s watching? All of them! I love a good dance party.

If you could go shopping with anyone from history, living or deceased, who would it be? Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel. For almost 12 years, I sold the Chanel brand and shared Coco’s story. People don’t realize just how ahead of her time she really was. There is simply no other brand like it. The Chanel DNA is strong and that is why people still covet it today. Coco had a strong eye and knew how to pull a look together.

What’s at the top of your travel bucket list? Thailand. Every time I watch a movie that is filmed in Thailand I fall in love. I am just drawn to that country.

What’s your favorite way to unwind at the end of a long day? Catching up with my family and getting some cuddle time. Lately, my oldest son and I have been watching reruns of “The Wonder Years”.
