Best Moisturizers for Thirty-Somethings

What are the best moisturizers for thirty-somethings?

The right moisturizers for thirty-somethings can make the difference between prevention and repair. Here are some top picks to keep your skin fresh and young and ready for the long haul.

Best Moisturizers for Thirty-Somethings

My mom gave me eye cream for my birthday this year. Yes, she did. “Start using this immediately and never stop,” she told me. Now, keep in mind, my mother is 64 and looks under 40. Yet, she has stories of regret about not starting a good skincare routine earlier, and tanning too much.

What Is Retinol?

When looking for an age-fighting moisturizer, consider Retinol as a key ingredient. Quick skincare Cliff Notes: Retinol is a derivative of Vitamin A that holds great anti-aging benefits. If you begin using it early (prevention), Retinol increases the skin’s elasticity and boosts collagen production, making it harder for fine lines and wrinkles to form. For mature skin (intervention) retinol increases collagen and produces cell turn over, removing dead skin cells and preventing more wrinkles. It also diminishes the appearance of dark spots.

It can be tough to start thinking about fighting wrinkles when you may still, like me,  have acne-prone skin. But taking care of your oily skin or dry skin now is the greatest gift to your skin of the future. Here are the top moisturizers in a range of prices.

High-End Moisturizers for Thirty-Somethings

Some things are worth paying for. Your skin might be one of them. These moisturizers are pricier but might be worth the investment.

Murad Essential-C Moisture Broad Spectrum SPF 30

Your daytime best friend this face cream protects and refreshes “environmentally stressed skin.” Read: SPF. Protect your skin against the sun’s harm while increasing its collagen production. Other perks? This product works for all skin types.

Sunday Riley Luna Sleeping Night Oil

A Retinol-oil this product boosts the skin’s plumpness overnight and reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Customers described it as a great first step in Retinol products – mild, but still effective. And who doesn’t want to use a sleeping oil?

Embryolisse Anti-Aging Re-Densifying Eye and Lip Contour Cream

Say that product name ten times fast. Or just use it because this cream, recommended by Meagan Hooper, works wonders for both your eyes and lips, using a combination of ingredients, including white mulberry which diminishes dark spots.

Mid-Range Moisturizers for Thirty-Somethings

There is a wide range of products for between $30-50 and available at both specialty stores and larger retailers. Here are a few of my favorites.

It Cosmetics Confidence in a Cream

This company quickly became a go-to for skincare and make-up a few years ago because my sensitive skin didn’t break out when I began using their products. Sometimes that’s all it takes. (They also use large, effective before-and-after pictures in their store displays.)

This moisturizer calls itself an “Anti-aging armour.” The hydrating formula is infused with ceramidespeptides, and anti-aging collagen. The result? This facial moisturizer makes the skin more supple and smooth but also evens tone. Using this during the day will decrease the amount of makeup you need to make your skin ready for public viewing. Downside? It does not contain an SPF, but IT has a great BB cream that does.

Philosophy Miracle Worker

Face it. Philosophy wins us over with their Product Names. Also, why are we drawn to existential language when it comes to skincare? What I need is a miracle! But we are  – and this moisturizer with sunscreen (SPF 30) is tried and true. It has a high price point, but I stuck it in the mid-range category because Philosophy often has specials and usually offers products in smaller sizes for sampling.

First Aid Ultra Repair Cream Intense Hydration

First Aid is a newer company committed to vegan, environmentally-friendly products. Plus, proceeds from their sales go to a fund to pay off student debt. Thirty-Somethings: These are our people. This Repair Cream contains oatmeal and shea butter to calm stressed skin (read student debt) and decrease redness.

Drug Store Moisturizers for Thirty-Somethings

So here’s my move. I go to Ulta.  Whenever I ask for advice about a product, the people are great. This staff can talk some mascara, which has my full respect. But after they show me the best, most shiny product, I ask them to direct me to “its drugstore equivalent.” Then we go over to the “drugstore section” and they find me the cheaper version.

Drugstores carry less expensive versions of practically any high-end product and often you can stumble on something with just as much quality.

La Roche-Posay Double Repair Face Moisturizer

Feel French and Fancy at a drugstore price. This daytime lotion is known for deep hydration and excellent sun protection (SPF 30)

Olay Total Effects Whip Fragrance-Free Facial Moisturizer

The Olay company has been around for generations. In fact, when my mother gave me eye cream for my birthday it was Olay, guess her reason? “This is what your grandmother use and I use and it doesn’t break us out.” (Family Systems Reveal: Everything breaks us out.) This day cream has SPF 25 and the Night Cream feels hydrating without being greasy. And I still haven’t broken out.

Start Young

We begin caring, or not caring, for our skin, quite young. Drinking plenty of water and using sun protection still go a long way in protecting our largest, most visible organ. But developing a simple routine of moisturizing nourishes your skin and brightens your complexion and your outlook. Whether you are 13, or 30 how your face looks can shape your confidence. Find a product that works for you and get ready for  60 to be the new 30.
