Song Singing Mom on the Street: Lynette Carpenter

Carpenter family Mom on the Street

Song Singing Mom on the Street Lynette Carpenter is leading people towards peace through music. Whether she’s chasing her baby girl or singing on her online platform, she offers a presence that is comfortable and genuine.

Meet Lynette

I am a new mom, wife, daughter, sister, counselor, singer, and friend. My husband Matt and I have been married for 3 years and we have a daughter, Eleanor “Ellie” who just had her 1st birthday!

Music has always been a big part of my life. I was born into a musical family. My parents say I was singing before I could even speak. I sang in choirs beginning in elementary school and began leading worship at my church when I was in middle school. I went on to college to receive a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance.

Song Singing Counselor

While in college, I also began volunteering at my church to mentor and lead high school girls. This opportunity opened my eyes to another love and passion – helping people understand their emotions and work through life’s challenges.

I decided to go back to school to receive a Masters of Education in School Counseling and worked as an Elementary School Counselor for 4 years before deciding to take some time off after my daughter was born.

Song Singing Quarantine

My husband is an Occupational Therapist at a local hospital here in Virginia and has maintained his normal work schedule during the COVID-19 pandemic. Being quarantined in our apartment with an active almost 1-year-old has had its challenges.

As an extrovert, fighting loneliness has been a daily struggle. Taking advantage of my daughter’s nap times, I turned to music and began singing and playing some of my favorite worship songs. It has been a very helpful way for me to cope and find encouragement during this season.

I began sharing my songs with social media in hopes that it might bring encouragement to others too. It’s been a great outlet that combines my love of music and counseling as I continue to social distance.

A few things I’m continuing to learn about myself: I love being a mom, I love to worship, I love investing in people, and I love ice cream.

Song Singing Style

Which three words best describe your style? Cute, simple, and comfy

What are your favorite places to shop? J-Crew, LOFT, Jane.com

Who’s your favorite style icon? Kate Middleton. She has the perfect balance of style, class, and beauty all rolled into one.

What’s your best style advice? Be confident – confidence enhances ANY outfit

What article of clothing/accessory would you not want to live without? A good pair of stretchy, high-waisted (avoiding that muffin top) jeans

Which trend would you want to see make a comeback? The skort – practical yet cute

What should NEVER make a comeback? Platform tennis shoes… I think mine were called “Bongo” and they basically looked like a thick platformed bowling shoe. Not cute.

What fashion/style did you love at the time, but now cringe when you see old photos? The perm! I thought I was rockin’ those curls but looking back at pictures, let’s just say it was a bit intense.

What’s your best style secret? Good mascara and some killer under-eye concealer.

Stilettos or flats? Flats but I like a good heel every once in a while. Heels do wonders for your legs!

Song Singing Family

What’s your favorite way to spend time with your family? During this season of quarantine, we love going on walks, being outdoors, and eating together.

What’s been your best family vacation? We have yet to take a vacation as a family of 3 but before having our daughter, my husband took me on a birthday road trip to NYC and Boston and it was so fun! Great food, great shows, beautiful views, and meeting up with some of my best friends from
college.

Best parenting advice: Although our daughter is just shy of 1 year old, what I have noticed over this past year is the importance of allowing her to see love and respect between my husband and I. If we disagree in front of her, we make sure to reconcile in front of her too. We tell her we love her every day and we let her hear us tell each other the same. The best gift we can give our daughter is a secure foundation built on a strong and loving marriage.

Parenting true confession: My daughter bathes more frequently than I do. I used to shower daily but that just isn’t my reality anymore.

What’s your go-to family dinner? TACOS

What’s your favorite family restaurant? Any Mexican restaurant because they have a loud atmosphere and can drown out the sound of a screaming child.

Song Singing Life

What’s your favorite show to binge-watch? Parks & Rec or The Office – I love shows that are light and can continue to make me laugh no matter how many times I’ve watched them.

If you could pick anyone to star as you in a movie based on your life, who would it be? Sandra Bullock, she’s just so classy and fun

What’s your favorite beach read? I like Liane Moriarty’s books because they have elements of mystery and suspense and are a quick read.

What’s the best song to dance to when nobody’s watching? The first song that comes to mind is Apple Bottom Jeans by T Pain haha. It helps me tap into my hip hop side.

If you could go shopping with anyone from history, living or deceased, who would it be? I would have to say my sister Ashley. We have always been super close but her family lives over 1,000 miles away. I would give anything to just be able to meet up with her for a day of shopping.

What’s at the top of your travel bucket list? Greece, it just looks so beautiful and dreamy. And I love Greek food too!

What’s your favorite way to unwind at the end of a long day? Watching a show on the couch with my husband while eating ice cream.
