The Best Hasselback Potatoes You’ll Ever Eat

Whether you’re serving them as a main course or side dish, these Hasselback potatoes put a delicious spin on the classic baked potato. Enjoy this recipe from Ligia Lugo of The Daring Kitchen.

Roasted, mashed, baked, or grilled– potatoes are one of the world’s most versatile and nutritious staple foods. While this starchy vegetable has had a bad reputation for quite some time, the world is slowly opening up to its nutritional benefits, too.

Potatoes- The Ultimate Food

Potatoes might seem like a basic boring carb-rich food, but they’re actually a great source of Vitamin C, Vitamin B6, potassium, dietary fiber, and some amount of iron.

Each 100g serving of potato meets 32% of our daily value of Vitamin C, 15% of the daily value of Vitamin B6, 12% of the daily value of potassium, 8% of the daily value of dietary fiber, and 4% of the daily value of iron. With such a fine nutritional profile, who would consider skipping out on this versatile vegetable?

Here is a fantastic way to enjoy potatoes in a crispy-crunchy avatar! This scrumptious dish that is enjoyed all around Europe and the US got its start at the Hasselbacken restaurant in Sweden. Hasselback potatoes are exceptionally simple to prepare, and you can serve them as a quick side dish with pretty much everything. For the ultimate Swedish comfort food, try them with some Swedish meatballs!

Tips and Variations for Hasselback Potatoes

This simple recipe is just a start to your culinary journey! Try the following tips and variations to mix things up!

Carefully slice the potatoes, but not all the way through, so you accidentally cut through the skin. Need a little help slicing the Hasselback potatoes? Try placing the potato between two chopsticks or wooden spoons. Once your knife hits a chopstick or wooden spoon handle, you’ve cut far enough.

Season with any herb or spice of your choice (such as rosemary, garlic, parsley, thyme, or chives), and then roast it until the potatoes turn nice and crispy. It is best to slow-roast your Hasselback potatoes to prevent them from becoming too brown and yet get a nice and evenly crispy texture on them. Also if you decide to cook them in cookware, make sure you use safe cookware, for example, porcelain enamel rather than plastic.

Want a little extra flavor (and calorie) boost for your potatoes? Feel free to load them up with melted cheese, butter, garlic butter, bacon, or sour cream. Don’t forget the chives!

Swap out your classic white potatoes like Russet or Yukon Gold and make Hasselback sweet potatoes. Smaller, softer potatoes aren’t a great option if you’re subbing out the potato. Stick with medium to large ones.

Hasselback Potatoes: Try Them Out!

We love these potatoes because they combine the best parts of the potato. They’re crunchy on the outside, like good French fries, but tender inside. Enjoy this delicious dish all year long!
