Instead of sitting in your hotel room watching the rain pour down on the balcony, check out our list of fun rainy day activities for you and your family to do outside of the hotel.

1) Go Bowling At Pinboy’s At The Beach

Hit the bowling lanes at “Pinboy’s at the Beach“; it’s only a short trip down Laskin Road from the Oceanfront. Pinboy’s is open every day of the week starting at 9:00 a.m. or 10:00 a.m., depending on the day. They have daily specials, as well as group rates, and you can always call ahead to see how busy they are. They tend to extra busy on a rainy day. Bowling is fun for all ages, as you can pull out the bumpers for the pre-schoolers in your group!

2) Beach Side Social – Try Your Hand At Shuffleboard

Perhaps leisure sports are your favorite way to spend a rainy day? Beach Side Social is hip new family friendly spot in Virginia Beach, featuring floor shuffleboard, bocce ball, board games, craft cocktails and beer, and fast-casual eats. With a great location on Atlantic Ave and a bright and cheery decor, this is a great spot for hiding from the rain and having a good time with your family members. Local tip: If you sign up for their mailing list they’ll give you a free hour of shuffleboard!

3) Virginia Aquarium & Marine Science Center: Say Hello To Undersea Creatures

The Virginia Aquarium & Marine Science Center is always the perfect place to escape from the rain. With a lot of interesting exhibits, a slew of cool undersea animals and daily events – you can spend an entire morning here! Many Virginia Beach residents are members of the Virginia Aquarium just so they can have a dry place to play on a rainy day! Be sure to plan accordingly – and arrive right at 9:00 a.m. when the doors open to escape the crowds.

4) iFLY Indoor Skydiving

Do you have the “itch” for adventure, perhaps doing something that you haven’t done before? Then iFLY is right up to your speed, minus the jumping out of the plane part! iFLY welcome flyers from 3 to 103, they have group and birthday party rates, so zip up that suit and hit the wind tunnel. To speed things up prior to arrival, book your spot and sign your waiver ahead of time.

5) Laser Quest Indoor Laser Tag

Maybe flying isn’t your thing, but you’re still looking for a good adventure. Head over to Laser Quest for a few rounds of laser tag! Divide your family into teams, and whichever team wins buys a round of ice cream at the Oceanfront. Bonus points for whichever player picks the most creative gamer-tag!

6) Jump Trampoline Park

Do you like to exercise while having fun with your kids? Bust out those black and orange socks, and head to Jump Trampoline Park. You’ll probably surprise yourself at how much fun as a parent you’ll have here. Especially those of us whose parents never let them have a trampoline as a child. If you have smaller toddler & pre-school aged kids, be sure to go to the “Jumping Beans” slots on Wednesday and Thursday mornings from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., you don’t have to worry about any bigger kids jumping into your little ones.

7) Search & Find Adventure Cards For A Rainy Day

This rainy day "Search and Find" is a great way to pass the time!

Sometimes a splash around in a summer rain fall is exactly what you need. Especially if you have an umbrella. You might not even need your rainboots if it’s a warm day – just slide on your flip flops and head outside. Pull out your Search & Find Adventure cards and step outside in search of the biggest puddle you can find. Be sure to tag #searchandfindadventures to share the fun!

8) Roller Skating At Haygood Roller Rink

Do you want to move and grove? Pop over to Haygood Roller Rink to test out your skills on wheels. Besides having one of the largest maple wood roller skating floors in the state, they boast a bunch of other activities such as a play place, a huge indoor playground, a game arcade, and a new “Rock N Bowl”.

9) Flipper McCoy’s – Go Old School

Did you love to play video games at the arcade in your youth? Then Flipper McCoy’s is the place for you! They have a fantastic classic video game section (as well as the new ones too). This is the perfect time to show your kids just how awesome you are at playing Pac Man and that Air Hockey is your jam. Also this is the perfect time to squeeze the whole family into the photobooth and take a family portrait – best face wins! Send a photo of the photo securely to friends and family on the FamilyApp.

10) The Virginia Beach Public Libraries: On your mark, get set, READ!

Do you have a few bookworms in your family? Or perhaps the kids really need to catch up on your summer reading… Take a trip to one of the many The Virginia Beach Public Libraries. You’ll find everything you need for a relaxing morning or afternoon.
