Practical Relaxed Mom on the Street: Kim Hopkins

Isn't it nice to get a healthy dose of honest parenthood? Read on to learn about Practical Relaxed Mom on the Street Kim Hopkins' busy life in Surrey, England.

Meet Kim

I’m Kim, a thirty-something-year-old with a house full of boys. I am stubborn, impatient, get bored easily, and like attention. I’m what most consider to be a pain up the bum. I love days out with my family and drag them across the country to find new places. I'm a coffee-lover and a sucker for chocolate cake or basically anything with calories. My family is my world and I am the annoying mum who documents everything. I consider myself to be hilarious, but I’m hard to make laugh. If I was to write a lonely hearts post, it would just say "don’t bother".

Practical Relaxed Style

Which three words best describe your style? Practical, casual, relaxed

What are your favorite places to shop? Zara, Boden, H&M

Who’s your favorite style icon? Oh, gosh. This is so hard. I’m so influenced by so many people and love so many styles. Sometimes I get confused with what suits me best. I love Holly Willoughby's style…it’s so elegant. I also love the Olsen twins, Sarah Jessica Parker, snd Sienna Miller.

What’s your best style advice? This has taken me ages to learn, but my advice is dress to your own body shape. I am always so drawn by certain styles, but sometimes they just don’t suit my body.

What article of clothing/accessory would you not want to live without? Probably a good headband. It can be that item that can add a hint of colour to an outfit, it can dress up an outfit, and just change the look of an outfit.

Which trend would you want to see make a comeback? Tie dye? Only kidding I’m not boho enough for that. I love the old-school styles from the '20s and '30s with the dresses with the cinched-in waistlines.

What should NEVER make a comeback? Tie dye? That, and the skirts over the trouser look.

What fashion/style did you love at the time, but now cringe when you see old photos? The low-rise jeans when it was cool to show your thing off. Whoever thought of that look should be jailed for life.

What’s your best style secret? High rise everything. Mom jeans, high waisted skirts, and trousers…anything to hide the ‘mum tum’ and give the illusion of a smaller waist.

Practical Relaxed Family

What’s your favorite way to spend time with your family? Long walks, fresh air, and days out.

What’s been your best family vacation? Our best so far has to be our trip to the Lake District. The scenery was breathtaking, we had such a wonderful time going for beautiful walks and lunches and taking in the countryside.

Best parenting advice: Don’t compare yourself to others. Do what works for you. Every child and every parent is different.

Parenting true confession: I give the toddler the iPad whilst the baby is having his nap just so I can also get a chance to close my eyes for half an hour. Don’t tell the hubby.

What’s your go-to family dinner? Spaghetti bowl, of course. It’s an all-round pleaser!

What’s your favorite family restaurant? Pizza Express. Pizza for the toddler, pizza for husband, wine for mummy.

Practical Relaxed Life

What’s your favorite show to binge-watch? Love Island when it’s on. If not my go-to is always Friends.

If you could pick anyone to star as you in a movie based on your life, who would it be? This is actually an easy one. It would be Reese Witherspoon. She has been in so many films where I see myself. She would play me so well.

What’s your favorite beach read? Anything by Jo Jo Moyes. She has a book for every emotion.

What song would you dance to when nobody’s watching?  Tina Turner's "Proud Mary." Basically, because I love to do Tina's shimmy dance. I’m getting pretty good at it now.

If you could go shopping with anyone from history, living or deceased, who would it be? Audrey Hepburn. I love that old classic style, plus I would have so many questions to ask her over cake and coffee.

What’s at the top of your travel bucket list? Fortunately, I have travelled so much with work as I’m cabin crew. My bucket list is full of places I want to go to, but one of my top things would be to visit the North Pole with the family. I would love to see the "big man", but also reindeer sleighing, and to see the northern lights.

What’s your favorite way to unwind at the end of a long day? Honestly, it would be a nice glass of red Malbec, some dark chocolate, and my favourite tv programme, all whilst cuddling on the sofa with my husband. Pass the sick bucket, lol.
