Classic Capsule Wardrobe Mom on the Street: Jen Bradley

Jen Bradley Mom on the Street

Whether she’s teaching her 5 kids at home or helping people create their dream classic capsule wardrobe, Jen Bradley has a simple, elegant style!

Meet Jen

Four years ago, Jen was an overwhelmed, frumpy, and exhausted homeschooling mom of 5 kids, ages 1-11. When she stumbled on the idea of a capsule wardrobe one night while scrolling through Pinterest, her life changed in ways she never could have imagined. Deciding to declutter her crowded closet, she spent the next three months researching how to put together her own capsule wardrobe.

Since that time, she has created an online course called The Confident Closet that teaches women how to put together a wardrobe that flatters their body shape and size, compliments their natural coloring, and focuses on their personal style preferences.

She also started a blog for all moms looking for inspiration, tips, and mom hacks about how to get out of overwhelm and start living mom life on purpose at jenbradleymoms.com.

Classic Capsule Wardrobe Style

Which three words best describe your style? Classic, casual, capsule wardrobe

What are your favorite places to shop? Boden, J. Crew, Banana Republic

Who’s your favorite style icon? Duchess Kate, no question. She is always so timeless and classy – and seems like an incredibly genuine person and mom too!

Which trend would you want to see make a comeback? I’m so thrilled that high-waisted everything is back! And the return of the bootcut leg should have all petite women everywhere celebrating!

What should NEVER make a comeback? Bedazzled back pockets on low waisted jeans. So unflattering. Yuck.

What fashion/style did you love at the time, but now cringe when you see old photos? Pretty much all of my 90s’ hairstyles! I styled my bangs in a giant wave and went through more hair spray in a week then than I do in several years now! Haha.

Classic Capsule Wardrobe Style Advice

What’s your best style advice? I truly believe the most beautiful thing any woman can wear is confidence! Contrary to popular belief, it is possible to become truly confident about our looks – no matter what shape or size we may be. Confidence in how we dress comes with learning simple things like how to flatter our figure or what colors are best for our natural coloring.

Creating a capsule wardrobe – a closet full of clothes that coordinate with each other and compliment my body shape and coloring –  has been the biggest and best way for me to feel confident in what I wear.

What article of clothing/accessory would you not want to live without? A good structured handbag makes any outfit look polished and put together. I have one carefully selected handbag per seasonal capsule wardrobe, and I love it when it’s the end of a season and it is time to get out the next handbag! I know this is cheesy, but it’s like reuniting with an old friend.

What’s your best style secret? The half-tuck. After five kids, I have a very straight, rectangular shape so tucking in the front of any top instantly creates a visual waistline and flatters my figure.

Stilettos or flats? Can I say both? Most days, I’m in flats like Rothys, sandals, or white tennis shoes, but I do LOVE a beautiful, classy heel too.

Life and Family

What’s your favorite way to spend time with your family? We love to play in the pool or around the table with a fun board game like Dominion, Splendor, or anything Harry Potter related.

What’s been your best family vacation? Every Christmas we go on a trip instead of giving our kids a ton of presents. This past year we went on a week-long cruise to Honduras and Mexico. The kids loved all of it – especially the wild monkey at the Chaccobbean ruins and the daily ice cream on the ship!

Best parenting advice: I love the quote by Jill Churchill – “There is no way to be a perfect mother and a million ways to be a good one.” Letting go of the idea that I need to be a perfect mother has helped me to lighten up and actually enjoy this time of my life when my kids are young.

Parenting true confession: Although I have tried, I don’t love doing crafts with my kids at all. The mess just stresses me out and I have an annoying tendency to try and do the work for them so it turns out “better” – which isn’t the message I want to send.

What’s your go-to family dinner? Homemade pizza. This is one of the only meals that makes everybody happy! Oh, and sloppy joes, which was a big surprise to me!

What’s your favorite family restaurant? I surveyed my kids for this – they said Panda Express! Haha!!!

Classic Life

What’s your favorite show to binge-watch? I rarely watch TV – but I did finally see Hamilton and loved it!

If you could pick anyone to star as you in a movie based on your life, who would it be? I’ve been told all my adult life that I resemble Robin Wright – so I guess I’d go with her.

What’s your favorite beach read? I made a goal to read more classic books this year, and my favorite so far is The Scarlet Pimpernel.

What song would you dance to when nobody’s watching? Sugar by Flo Rida – I have a long time love of hip hop dance music that very few people know about! 🙂

If you could go shopping with anyone from history, living or deceased, who would it be? Duchess Kate! I actually have a few “RepliKate” pieces that I’ve picked up over the past few years, and I’d love to add to my collection as my business grows!

What’s at the top of your travel bucket list? We’re hoping we can have an epic RV adventure around the western United States this fall! Now that our military overseas adventures are coming to an end, we want our kids to see and appreciate our amazing country and all the sights here.

What’s your favorite way to unwind at the end of a long day? I love to climb in bed with a good book, plan my next day, slather on my favorite hand lotion, and place my lavender eye pillow on my face!
