Traditional Beachy Dad on the Street: Blake Dozier

traditional beach dad Blake dozier

Traditional Beachy Dad on the Street Blake Dozier might just be our busiest dad yet. If he’s not catching the latest Redskins game or corralling his four wildly energetic (yet adorable) children, you can find Blake watching videos of Kelly Slater on Youtube or planning his next hunting/surfing trip.

Meet Blake

Blake Dozier has been married to his (much smarter, funnier, talented, and more attractive) wife Caroline for almost 12 years and they have four children together: Twins Luke (6) and Virginia (6), Annabelle (3), and David (22 months). They recently put a deposit on a labrador puppy to add one more child to the family! Blake and Caroline both grew up in Virginia Beach and are very passionate about the growth and future of the region. Blake is a co-founder and operator of OnPoint Building Services, a full service commercial janitorial company serving the Coastal Virginia region.  OnPoint employs about 125 team members and services clients in over 1.5 million square feet of cleanable space in the area. Blake is an active volunteer on the boards of PiN Ministry to serve the homeless, VB Fellows, and Virginia Beach Vision, as well as music ministry at New Life Church.

Traditional Beachy Style

Which three words best describe your style? Traditional, Relaxed, Beachy. I went to a really preppy college (Hampden-Sydney), but I grew up in a beach culture, so I am a weird mix of the two.

What are your favorite places to work out? Home, First Landing State Park,  Beach (surfing) Who’s your favorite fitness icon? Kelly Slater. He’s twice the age of many of the people he competes against and he’s in better shape than most of them.

What’s your best fitness advice? Show up consistently. If you can just do that you are ahead of most people already.

What trend did you love at the time, but now cringe when you see old photos? I wore a lot of cargo shorts in middle school. That probably put me on the wrong side of history.

What’s your dad superpower? Carrying multiple kids at one time. I have four kids age six and under.

Facial hair or clean-shaven? Facial hair on the weekends, clean-shaven during the week.

Traditional Beachy Family

What’s your favorite way to spend time with your family? Outdoor activities. Beach, bike riding, fishing, hiking, etc.

What’s been your best family vacation? Islamorada, Florida What’s your favorite family activity? At my kids’ current ages, riding bikes as a family is great. The twins (6) can ride their own bikes and the three-year-old and one-year-old ride in baby seats with my wife and me. The kids love it. As my kids get older, I’m looking forward to being able to do more things with them like hunting, surfing, snowboarding, spearfishing, golf, etc.

Best parenting advice: If you can love your wife well, you are indirectly loving your kids well and modeling a healthy marriage for them.

Parenting true confession: Funny one: I have told our kids with dirty diapers to go find mommy more than once. She, of course, sends them back to me to change the diapers, as she should. Vulnerable one: I sometimes struggle to get off my phone during family time, whether it’s for work reasons or not. That’s not the dad I want to be.

What’s your go-to family dinner? Grilling anything (especially wild game or fish we hunted or caught) and eating on the back porch together.

What’s your favorite family restaurant? Sage Kitchen inside Anderson’s near Red Mill in Virginia Beach. Their outdoor activities for the kids are second to none. The kids can go play until the food comes and they love it.

Traditional Beachy Life

What’s your favorite show to binge-watch? Most recently it was The Mandalorian. My wife and I are kind of Star Wars nerds.

If you could pick anyone to star as you in a movie based on your life, who would it be? The guy who plays Rick Kane in North Shore.

What’s your favorite sport and why?

To watch: football. I grew watching Virginia Tech Hokies and Washington Redskins football with my dad. I still watch almost every game for both, although watching the Redskins can be more of a punishment than a hobby.

To play: surfing. Some might not call it a sport if you don’t compete in it, but it’s the most fun of anything I’ve done.

What’s your favorite workout song? Enter Sandman.

If you could hang out with anyone from history, living or deceased, who would it be? Jesus Christ.

What’s at the top of your travel bucket list? Surfing trip to the Mentawai Islands, Maldives, or Bali. When my kids get older it will be fun to do a trip like this with them.

What’s your favorite way to unwind at the end of a long day? There’s nothing better than coming home to see my wife and kids and hearing “DADDY!” from all four kids as they jump on me.

Your Traditional Beachy Life

Come on, Blake… cargo shorts? At least Caroline knows what she’s doing! But all jokes aside, Blake Dozier is a true family man who’s excitement about putting his family first is super contagious. He plays hard, works harder and has no greater hopes than seeing his wife and kids succeed. And for more fun and stylish dads, be sure to check out FamilyApp’s Dad on the Street page!
