Meet Mike

Mike Harris is an ultra-hip Pastor who is no stranger to style.  When he is not delivering a message of hope in the community, you can find him running his personal training business, Dominion Fitness, alongside his wife Donna. Mike is an active father of 8 children and he loves hitting the road and taking long family trips.  In his spare time, Mike enjoys writing, reading, and traveling the world.  He is a tutor, mentor, and motivational speaker who is affectionally known by many as ‘Coach Mike’.

Ultra-Hip Style

Which three words best describe your style?  Ultra-hip, comfortable, cool

What are your favorite places to shop? Express, Plato’s Closet, Amazon, and PoshMark

What’s your best style advice?  Confidence is Key. Own your look.

What fashion/style did you love at the time, but now cringe when you see old photos? We wore big baggy jeans that were untapered and would at times drag on the ground causing the bottoms to fray.  I cringe now when I see frayed bottoms on pants.

What’s your dad superpower?  I have the power to positively encourage my family that together we can accomplish anything. Forgiveness and unconditional love are my back up powers if we fall short of a task or goal.

Facial hair or clean-shaven?  Facial hair minus the beard.

Ultra-Hip Family

What’s your favorite way to spend time with your family? Taking road trips to visit family.

What’s been your best family vacation? We took a road trip to Chicago from Virginia Beach just because we all wanted to visit the city. That was probably my favorite vacation. We are currently planning a Disney cruise which I am sure will surpass the Chicago memory.

What’s your favorite family activity? We spend a lot of time supporting each other’s extracurricular activities, but I would say creating lip-syncing videos for Facebook and Instagram or hosting dance parties with our kids and their friends are our favorite activities.

Best parenting advice:  Be authentically you.  Kids can sniff out a fake or a parent that is trying too hard to be cool or relevant.  I believe that if you engage your kids in their world and invite them into yours, this will give you things to talk about and create opportunities for fun and honest dialogue.

Parenting true confession: My youngest child gets away with way more than her older sibling ever did.

What’s your go-to family dinner? My family loves when I fry fish and my wife makes her amazing homemade Mac and Cheese.

What’s your favorite family restaurant? IHOP because we are a large family and kids eat free after 4 pm.

Ultra-Hip Life

What’s your favorite show to binge-watch?  American Greed or any show on ID TV.

If you could pick anyone to star as you in a movie based on your life, who would it be? Michael B. Jordan or Larenz Tate

What’s your favorite sport and why? Basketball. I love that every player has a unique role to play and when everyone does their part the best teams can win against a team with a better individual player.

What’s the best song to dance to when nobody’s watching?  So Fresh, So Clean by Outkast

If you could hang out with anyone from history, living or deceased, who would it be?  Booker T.  Washington

What’s at the top of your travel bucket list?  Masai Mara, Kenya- Home of the Great Migration, which is one of the animal kingdom’s greatest spectacles.

What’s your favorite way to unwind at the end of a long day? After a difficult day or long business trip, there is nothing like coming home to my wife and kids, kicking my feet up on my recliner chair, and doing nothing.

Your Ultra-Hip Style

Mike is living proof that you can have a busy, active family life and ultra-hip style. He knows just what to wear for every occasion, whether he’s dressed up for work, or dressed down on a road trip. We also love the fact that he doesn’t just invest time and energy in his own family. Through his speaking, mentoring, and coaching, he’s constantly encouraging many.
