Old Testament prophecies told God’s people about Jesus hundreds of years before His birth. Read on to learn more from Lisa Robertson.

The Branch

“A shoot will come up from the stump of Jesse: from his roots a Branch will bear fruit.  The Spirit of the Lord will rest on him — the Spirit of wisdom and understanding: the Spirit of counsel and of power; the Spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord — and he will delight in the fear of the Lord.”

Isaiah 11:1-2

The prophecy details a portion of Jesus’ lineage that would come from the line of Jesse, the father of Israel’s most beloved king, David.  It also yields a rich description of what the Holy Spirit will bring to Him – wisdom, understanding, counsel, power, knowledge and the fear of the Lord.  These gifts from the Heavenly Father equipped Christ for His ministry and are available to us.  Too often we fail to receive the gifts that He brings to us.  In this season of gifts, pray that you will receive all that He desires to give you.

Dear Lord, we ask that your Holy Spirit will rest on us.  Please give us your gifts of wisdom, knowledge, understanding, power, and might.  Let each one delight in the fear of the Lord.  Thank you for being such a generous Father.  Thank you for the rich life that is ours through Christ.  Amen.
