Meet Ashley

If your google search is filled with parenting questions, you are not alone. So often in the stress and overwhelm we experience as parents we lose that sense of balance or peace, we yearn for as parents. This week’s Mom on the Street, Ashley Willis, is no stranger to this. As a pastor’s wife and mother to four boys in Keller, Texas, she has experienced not just her own search for peace but has heard to cries of others as well.

Instead of sitting in the defeat of the challenge of parenting, Ashley listened to what she was hearing from other women, realizing they are not alone and wrote her latest book Peace Pirates (the latest of seven books she either authored or co-authored) to speak to the struggle so many women were searching to find in the midst of motherhood. In addition to writing books, Ashley does public speaking and is also a co-host of her podcast Naked Marriage and TV program Marriage Today with her husband Dave.

Fun Casual Style

Which three words best describe your style? Varied, Fun, Casual

What are your favorite places to shop? I love a deal! Marshall’s, TJ Maxx, Ross, consignment shops, and even Goodwill.

What’s your best style advice? Never wear something that doesn’t “feel” like you (unless it’s a work uniform, but even that can often be customized to fit your personality with accessories and such).

What article of clothing/accessory would you not want to live without? Earrings. They are the exclamation point of any outfit. Right now, I’m really loving earrings from Plunder.

Which trend would you want to see make a comeback? Anything made of corduroy. I just love it for Fall fashion—especially blazers.

What should NEVER make a comeback? Big platform slides. I think they are kind of coming back, and I’m terrified for humanity. I nearly broke an ankle on more than one occasion while wearing these in the 1990s.

What fashion/style did you love at the time, but now cringe when you see old photos? Pegged jeans. It was all the rage in the early 1990s but definitely not a great style decision. If only we had known how ridiculous it looked! LOL.

What’s your best style secret? I love this eyelash serum that I use. It is called Essy Eyelash Growth Serum, and you can purchase it on Amazon. It makes your lashes grow, and it is super affordable!

Stilettos or flats? Tom’s wedge sandals are my fav! They are so comfortable and cute.

Fun Casual Family

What’s your favorite way to spend time with your family? Our family loves to travel together. We take frequent road trips and love stopping along the way at national and state parks as well as little mom and pop restaurants and boutiques. It’s a blast!

What’s been your best family vacation? A few years ago, we did a two-week, cross country, 5,000-mile road trip out West and visited friends and family all along the way. We hiked in Glacier National Park, visited Yellowstone, saw Mt. Rushmore, climbed the Badlands, and much more. It was epic!

Best parenting advice: Choose your battles wisely. Not everything is worth a fight.

Parenting true confession:  Sometimes, I need to have a “mental health moment” and take a little break away from my kiddos. It is usually me just taking thirty minutes to an hour reading or watching a program alone in my room, running a bubble bath and soaking, or going for a short walk (when the kids are old enough to be at home alone). It helps me to re-calibrate on an especially trying day.

What’s your go-to family dinner? These days, I am loving “Voila!” frozen meals. Seriously! Quarantine has made cooking lose its luster for me. These “Voila!” frozen meals have meat, veggies, and pasta, and they are super delicious and EASY.

What’s your favorite family restaurant? Any Mexican restaurant.

Fun Casual Life

What’s your favorite show to binge-watch? The Office. I think I’ve seen every episode about 57 times.

If you could pick anyone to star as you in a movie based on your life, who would it be? Amy Adams. She is such an amazing actress, and I love that we are fellow redheads.

What’s your favorite beach read? The Noticer Returns by Andy Andrews. Such a great book
and the way that he writes about the Alabama Coast is absolutely breathtaking!

What song would you dance to when nobody’s watching? “Don’t You Worry ‘Bout a Thing” by Tori Kelly

If you could go shopping with anyone from history, living or deceased, who would it be? Betty White! I think she would be a hoot, and I’m such a fan of The Golden Girls.

What’s at the top of your travel bucket list? Machu Picchu, Peru. My husband and I have plans to hike the Inca Trail next year. Can’t wait!

What’s your favorite way to unwind at the end of a long day? Now that our two older boys can take turns watching our two younger boys, my husband and I go on a walk around our neighborhood nearly every single night. It’s the perfect way to unwind and reconnect.
