Group Halloween Dog Costumes for Pets and Their Owners

costumes for dogs

Halloween is right around the corner, and as a doting pet owner, I like to involve my dog in as much as my life as paws-able, which means doing a group or partner costume with my dog.

They may not necessarily make it the whole night in the costume. But at least you’ll get a few great pictures to gush over for years to come. Here are some of the best ideas for family and dog matching group costumes:

Owner/Dog Costumes for Halloween

A Mandrake…or Should I say “Dog-drake”

Earmuffs on! For Harry Potter fans, this is the perfect costume to re-create that classic scene where Professor Sprout teaches the first-year wizards and witches about the dangers of the mandrake scream. This is especially perfect for smaller pets!

The Magic School Pup

“Please let this be a normal field trip” “With ‘the Frizz?’ NO WAY!” The great thing about this is the school bus takes minimal effort (purchase it at Target) and is the perfect addition to your own Miss Frizzle costume. Seat belts, everyone!

Arthur and Pal

“Every day when you’re walking down the street

Everybody that you meet

Has an original point of view!”

If you didn’t hear that reggae-inspired song in your head while you were reading that, you’re probably not a child of the 90s or early 2000s. Or didn’t have young kids during that era. Arthur was the show on PBS kids that dealt with complex topics of childhood and told it like it is. I think we can all agree that D.W. needed an attitude check, and Muffy was the actual worst. But Pal, well, no matter what Arthur was going through or dealing with at school or with family, Pal was always there for him. This costume is simple enough, with a pair of aardvark ears (attached to a headband), a yellow crew neck sweater, a white collared shirt, a pair of round glasses, and red sneakers. And, of course, an adorable “pal” with a red collar.

Shark Dog and Surfer Girl

Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water…you’re suddenly met with this bit of shark cutie who apparently has an appetite for surfboards. We love this costume by Tori, and check out her blog to find out how you can make it!

The Neverland Crew

The great thing about a Peter Pan group costume is that there are so many options! Peter, Wendy, Michael, John, Hook, Smee, Tiger Lily, Tinker Bell, and of course, Nana–the family nanny who lovingly cares for the children. We love the addition of the little bonnet. This would make the perfect group costume, complete with the pirate ship wagon!

The Crown

Who says you need a corgi when a doodle is just as regal? This Queen Elizabeth II costume is spot on, from the hair and makeup to the outfit to the…crown. This royal duo is sure to turn some heads and even get a curtsy or two.

The Mask and Otis

“P-A-R-T…Y? Because I GOTTA!” This “the Mask” costume would only be complete with a Milo to party along with it. To this day, my family will interchangeably use the words “cheese” and “keys” just to mess with each other. Also, I’d just like to say that her makeup is flawless.

E.T. Phone Home

This idea has literally everything you could want in a costume. 1. A reliable mode of transportation 2. Easy, comfortable clothes with a hood 3. A basket perfect for taking your extra-terrestrial back to his spaceship.

The Cat (or Dog?) in the Hat

If you have two dogs, you know that sometimes they like to stir up a little extra trouble when they’re together. If your dogs are like two peas in a pod (another Halloween costume idea), then this is the perfect idea. Luckily, you don’t even have to wrangle them into a shirt, either. Just a simple neck handkerchief and blue, fluffy headpiece gets the job done. Wear a pair of white gloves, the iconic stripe-yhat, and an oversized red necktie, and you’ve got a very Seuss-y ensemble.

Happy Little Dog

We love a dynamic duo. And this duo understood the assignment. Bob Ross brought joy to the masses, and your matching look is sure to do the same. You’ll need a curly brown wig, an old button-down shirt, and a cardboard palette/paintbrush fastened to the dog’s shirt. How do you keep the wig attached? It looks like Koa has his attached to the leash/collar, so it doesn’t accidentally fall off. “We don’t make mistakes, just happy little accidents.” –Bob Ross.
