Being kicked out of your home is one thing. We bucked up, took the necessary steps to figure out what the heck was going on – and are dealing with it! But when the storage shed roof starts leaking - the one that is housing ALL of your personal belongings, the day before Christmas… Well, there isn’t much else to do other than take a moment to shrug it off, and you move to another shed after tossing the damaged items. Bad things happen.
We ended 2018 with a bang. We removed all of the mold. Things were moving right along as the first bathroom installation began, as we ordered window replacements but didn't schedule them until mid-January. A few unexpected things happened besides the storage shed roof leak. We also found a bunch of not-so-great things behind a wall, but better to find it now than never, right?
If you need a full refresher of how I found the mold in my home – please listen to a podcast. I was recently invited to speak on The 4 Phase Cycle Podcast with Zesty Ginger: Episode S2E18 . “Megan sits down for a candid conversation with Tessa Duquette, a local friend also being molded for greatness, about their stories and struggles with finding mold in their homes.”
I will say that I was still struggling to see the light at the end of the tunnel.
The renovation still felt overwhelming, daunting, and an pretty darn big task. A lot of decisions, a lot of organizing the moving pieces, and a lot of still unknown with the exterior and landscaping of our property.
I started burning sage and palo santo in the house regularly. And I truly believe it has helped. "The power of intent is integral here. If you burn sage with the intention to cleanse your home of negative energy, then it is incredibly more likely to do so. Any effect of the plant must be rooted in your mind."
Stay Positive. Tessa.
The FamilyApp has been another bright spot in creating positive energy through the process. With the messenger, it's been especially easy to chat with my husband about the renovation. It's also helped me track of all my contractor meetings and house appointments.
Now I’ve known Emily for a few years. We've been part of a bunch of creative networks together. I also love how she always has the biggest smile on her face, along with extremely good vibes. What I didn’t realize, is that Emily is what you might call a Renaissance Woman. She wears a bunch of different hats. And she’s really good at helping people. Just the amount of greatness I needed.
As I sat gluing my 2019 plan for myself and my house (yes I made two), I placed Emily’s business card smack dab in the middle of my house manifestation. And BAM – that’s how the HGTV magic started.
With Emily on board, I quickly handed off my endless to-do list of Project Manager/Contractor type things for her to take control of.
And BOY DID THAT FEEL GOOD! Teamwork makes the dream work!
Emily quickly broke down the project into different phases.
Phase #1 is to install and fix the interior layers of the house. This includes both bathrooms installed, new hardwood floors in the master, refinishing the hardwood floors in the rest of the house, the entire house painted from top to bottom, new windows and a backdoor installed, closets built-out, and entertainment center built.
WHEW. We don't mess around do we? No, it's all about greatness.
Phase #2 is outside the house and the landscape. This is a very daunting part of the renovation - and it's SO nice to have it moved to the next phase. This includes: New gutters, fixing the porch, and dealing "Lake Shadowlawn" aka: our backyard.
So there you have it, friends. We are moving right along, and we even set a move-in date (even though, yes, I know it could change!). We have an unbelievable team of talented people helping us with this #moldedforgreatness movement!
