What Do You Need to Make a Homemade Kite?

You might even be surprised to learn that you don’t need a lot of special materials. In fact, all you need for kite building are:
- newspaper
- some string or ribbon
- glue or tape
- scissors
- two 3-foot wooden or plastic sticks

What Is the Easiest Kind to Make?
There are a few different kites you can build if you’re ready to get into the action. Of all the shapes, a delta kite is the most recognizable one. Because of its pointed shape, it will meld to the wind.
However, in the event of extreme winds, there are better options. A diamond-shaped kite is probably your best bet if you’re looking for an easy option that will take flight. This version’s tail will keep it pointed into the wind even if there isn’t a lot to keep it up. The sled kite is convenient because it can simply be rolled up. However, if you’re considering this option, you’ll need to be patient with the rough currents close to the ground.
How Do You Build a Kite Step by Step?

1. Get Your Materials!
It helps to have a printable pattern, so ensure it’s ready alongside all your supplies. Keep in mind that markers and paint can also help to dress up an otherwise dull-colored kite.
2. Make Your Base
You’ll need to locate the mid-point on one stick so you can place the crosspiece about 12 inches from one end. Once you’ve done this, use tape to fasten the sticks securely together.
3. Attach the String
Run string from one end of the crosspiece to the top of the spine and the other end of the spine. Use tape to fasten the string to each end.
4. Apply the Frame
Whether you’re making a paper kite or using plastic, cover the base and secure it with tape or glue. This is where you can get creative with your own kite-making

5. Create the Bridle
Punch two holes on the spine for the bridle. Feed string separately through both of the holes and tie it to the spine. These pieces of string should stretch approximately 8” from the kite.
6. Add the String
