Creating Capacity Mom on the Street Amy Marie Hann with coffee

Whether she’s working on her business or enjoying dinner with her family, Creating Capacity Mom on the Street Amy Marie Hann has mastered the balance of looking stylish while staying comfortable enough to chase after her three children. Read on to learn more about her and how she finds joy in this busy season of life.

Meet Amy

Amy is a multi-passionate mother of three young kids living in Melbourne, Florida. She spent a decade supporting and helping high powered executives to maximize their productivity and time. Seven years ago, she left corporate America to pursue life as a stay-at-home and within a few months began searching for something in between “CEO” and “stay at home.” That search led her to start her first venture where she taught hundreds of women how to start and grow businesses. Through that experience, she came to see that the biggest barrier for many women pursuing meaningful work outside of the home is capacity.

Amy has a full plate. She has three young kids. She’s a licensed foster parent and adoptive parent. Her elderly in-laws live with them and she is running two businesses. And yet, she’s found a pace of life that is the perfect fit for her family through the development of effective habits and strategies. She’s using her gifts, she’s giving back, she’s able to be present with her kids, she’s full of joy and gratitude for where she is in life.

Amy began Creating Capacity to empower women to implement effective habits and strategies so that they have more time and energy for their family and their work.

Creating Capacity Style

Which three words best describe your style? Classic, Comfortable and Confident (aka The Professional Mom)

What are your favorite places to shop? J Crew, Loft, and Anthropologie

Who’s your favorite style icon? Joanna Gaines

What’s your best style advice? Quality over quantity! Wear what makes you feel beautiful. There are so many influencers out there pushing the latest trends and it creates so much noise in our lives. I’m trying to avoid fast fashion, buy well-made things that will last, and focus on building a capsule wardrobe of clothes that fit me well.

What article of clothing/accessory would you not want to live without? Spanx 🙂

What’s your best style secret? Good skincare! If you feel confident in your skin, it makes all the difference!

Stilettos or flats? Clogs! A little bit of both 🙂

If you could go shopping with anyone from history, living or deceased, who would it be? This is a hard one! I do think I’d love to go home decor shopping with Joanna Gaines. That would be super fun

Creating Capacity Family

Best parenting advice: Trust your gut! Your child only has two parents. You know them more intimately than anyone else in the world. No one else is better equipped than you to make a decision about their education or their needs. None of us has all the answers and of course, we should seek expert advice and support as needed but I think sometimes we give too much weight to the opinion of others.

Parenting true confession: My boys love a McDonald’s Happy Meal.

What’s your go-to family dinner? Sausage Sheet-pan Dinner! During the week I prefer recipes that I know by heart. Sliced chicken sausage, broccoli florets, multi-colored peppers cut up, and often zucchini slices, tossed in olive oil and sea salt, and cooked at 400 for about 25 minutes. Serve over cauliflower rice or brown rice.

What’s your favorite family restaurant? There is a little hole-in-the-wall Italian place where we live that we all love. It’s more of a special occasion place but the boys love it. They have the most amazing seafood manicotti. The boys get noodles with butter but they swear it’s the best noodles they’ve ever had.

Creating Capacity Lifestyle

What’s your favorite way to spend time with your family? We live about an hour outside of Orlando and we love going to the Disney area. We’ve had annual passes to Disney for several years. My husband is a huge Disney nerd! I was slow to convert but it truly is such a magical way to spend a family day. Having the passes means we can go for a few hours, hit a few rides, have a great meal and then call it a day. It’s good for us all to get out of the house and just have fun together.

What’s been your best family vacation? A few years ago, we took our son Bowman to Kennebunkport, Maine and it was delightful. We’ve learned that the lower our expectations, the better the trip! We stayed with family friends and had nothing on the agenda. Then we rested, visited, explored, and just enjoyed having a slower pace of life for a week. We also love staying anywhere we can get a free breakfast buffet.  It’s hilarious to us what our kids consider “fancy” and have found they love to pull out sofas, Belgian waffle machines, and a hotel pool. We try to focus on making memories together and not checking things off our list.

What’s at the top of your travel bucket list? I’ve been to New York City many times but I can’t wait to take our kids. Our baby girl is about to turn one so it will be a few years before that happens but I’m definitely looking forward to it. I love to experience new places but there’s something about NYC that always brings me bac

Creating Capacity in Life

What’s your favorite show to binge-watch? The Crown or Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. I really don’t watch a ton of TV though! Most nights I read for an hour before bed. I read most of the books on Reese Whitherspoon’s book list but I am always looking for a good recommendation. I don’t love thrillers but everything else is fair game.

What’s your favorite beach read? I read so much that I honestly can’t remember which books I’ve read and am horrible at remembering titles! My favorite book from this year was Educated. I love Jojo Moyes, Liane Moriarty, Kristin Hannah, and Susan Meissner.

If you could pick anyone to star as you in a movie based on your life, who would it be? I think I’d have to say Amy Poehler or Kristen Bell. I’m not exactly sure why! I think they’d be so fun to have coffee with and I’d love to hear their stories in real life.

What’s the best song to dance to when nobody’s watching? My current favorite is “I Don’t Care” by Ed Sheehan

What’s your favorite way to unwind at the end of a long day? I’m a bath girl. I love to take a hot bath with Epsom salt and then read in my bed. I sound like an old lady! I’ve found that if I watch TV in the late evening, it keeps me up and gets my brain going. I get up early and am definitely a morning person so I’m pretty disciplined about getting to bed early. Finding books that I love has been a big part of making sleep a priority! I definitely do love a glass of wine after the kids go to bed but the older I get, I find that a hot tea serves me better.

Creating Capacity in Your Own Life

We love the way that Amy’s classic style radiates confidence. She has a great eye for accessories, and we love the way her statement earrings add that extra pop of fun. We’re also big fans of the way that she’s helping empower other women to find their passions and live life to the fullest!
