Classic Kavalier Dad on the Street

Thousands of men depend on Classic Kavalier Dad on the Street Jon Shanahan’s input when they’re looking for their next clothing purchase. Read on to learn more about the man behind The Kavalier.

Meet Jon

Meet Jon Shanahan, or as he’s better known, The Kavalier. Jon is a father of three and has run a YouTube channel for the last five years, giving men all over the world advice on fashion. He has made it his mission to give his unbiased opinionon every notable brand in the industry. From suits to shirts, watches, and even men’s concealers, Jon’s seen a lot of what the Men’s fashion industry has to offer. The goal in his mind is to give an opinion people can trust.

He never wants to talk to his viewers like he’s someone else. If you met Jon after watching one of his videos, you’d find that he’s the same mild-mannered, humble, intelligent guy. This is why many brands trust him to do a thorough and honest job if they choose to sponsor him. And it’s an even bigger reason why he’s gained a following of over 100,000 subscribers. One of those brands is a company called Oliver Wicks. Oliver Wicks has been a sponsor of Jon’s channel for a while now and is one of the many brands that allows him to take trips around the world doing what he loves.

Classic Kavalier Style

Which three words best describe your style? Classic, Versatile, Fitted

What are your favorite places to shop? For basics, I really like Everlane for almost everything else it’s custom makers like Oliver Wicks, Son of a Tailor, or Tailor Store.

Who’s your favorite style icon? I like classic James Bond style from Sean Connery but I also love Daniel Craig’s modern masculine style just as much.

What’s your best style advice? Get the fit right and everything else will fall into place.

What trend did you love at the time, but now cringe when you see old photos? I definitely held on to cargo shorts way too long but your style game goes up 10 fold once you ditch them.

What’s your dad superpower? Creating a game out of almost any situation or object. Waiting in line somewhere? Easy. Out on the beach with no toys? No problem.

Facial hair or clean-shaven? I’ve been rocking a mustache in quarantine but usually, I like a clean-shaven look.

Classic Kavalier Family

What’s your favorite way to spend time with your family? We like to be active. Hikes, bikes, and picnics are our weekend getaways that I look forward to all week.

What’s been your best family vacation? We spent two weeks in Ireland & Scotland when we had two-under-two. Spent time on the east coast of Ireland in the countryside, a few days in Dublin, and then some time in Edinburgh and that’s certainly the trip that we constantly reminisce about and would do again in a heartbeat.

What’s your favorite family activity? Every Friday & Saturday we do a popcorn movie night where we pop our own popcorn and watch about 30 minutes of a movie before bed and it’s definitely become the signal that the weekend is here.

Best parenting advice: Communicate, listen, stay calm.

Parenting true confession: No one really told me as a Dad that the first six to nine months are hard to make a connectionwith your infant. Mothers get their reward from nurturing and caring, and I believe fathers get that through teaching and communication which doesn’t really kick in until right around the nine-month mark.

What’s your go-to family dinner? Taco night. Either ground beef or turkey tacos are a staple for us.

What’s your favorite family restaurant? My daughter has a lot of food allergens so we very rarely eat out but Chipotle gives us food we know is safe, free from additives, and when we get guacamole from a fresh box we know there’s no contaminates.

Classic Kavalier Life

What’s your favorite show to binge-watch? I could watch Scrubs, The Office, or Parks and Rec any time any day.

If you could pick anyone to star as you in a movie based on your life, who would it be? John Krasinski has been my man crush since I started The Office in 2005, but my wife is insistent that I am a spitting image of Richard Madden and either one would do.

What’s your favorite sport and why? My sport in high school was swimming and I tend to miss it. As a physical activity, it’s amazing and I love sports that you compete against others but ultimately you’re competing to improve your own times and abilities.

What’s your favorite family dance party song? Either Harry Belafonte’s Jump in the Line or Quad City DJs Space Jam.

If you could hang out with anyone from history, living or deceased, who would it be? Beau Brummell is cited as the man that created what we think of today as the suit. From all accounts, he was a fascinating and eccentric guy. Sounds like a great guy to have a drink with.

What’s at the top of your travel bucket list? Since we checked off Ireland, I’d love to hike and camp in the Patagonia region of South America. My wife speaks Spanish, and it’s about time I learn. So what better way than immersing myself in the culture?

What’s your favorite way to unwind at the end of a long day? A quick run, hot bath, and a documentary. Lately, I’ve been watching The Last Dance on ESPN and reliving the 90s era Chicago Bulls has been a real treat. I don’t follow sports much but seeing athletes at the absolute height of their ability is inspiring and fascinating.
