Classic Comfortable Style

Which three words best describe your style? Casual, comfortable, and classic

What are your favorite places to shop? There are a few local boutiques here in Connecticut that I really enjoy. I also live just outside New York City so window shopping there is always fun but can get me into trouble! I’ve found some of my favorite clothing items at Old Navy over the years and love Jenni Kayne for more investment pieces.

Who’s your favorite style icon? I love Jennifer Aniston’s timeless, neutral-colored style.

Stilettos or flats? I love a good heel but I’m in flats most of the time…so let’s say wedges?

Style Advice

What’s your best style advice? I look like a tired mama most of the time so I’m not sure I should be offering advice! One thing I would say is that it helps me to dress and accessorize from a place of value and strength rather than for it. I notice myself buying things I might wear once or spending too much money when I pursue the latter.

What article of clothing/accessory would you not want to live without? My jean jacket has been a game-changer and a “life-saver” many a time and some jewelry pieces that hold sentimental value – gifts from my husband and earrings passed down from my mom.

Which trend would you want to see make a comeback? I think I miss the boat on most trends but I’ve been trying to find a good pair of overalls—that trend is back right?!

What should NEVER make a comeback? Maybe it was just kids’ clothes but can we not ever again put giant sunflowers on every item of clothing and accessory?

What fashion/style did you love at the time, but now cringe when you see old photos? The movie, You’ve Got Mail with Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan came out when I was 14. The combination of loving the movie and being an old soul led me to adopt Meg Ryan’s character “Kathleen Kelly’s” style. The most unfortunate element of this equation was the haircut, not a good look for a youthful 14-year-old.

What’s your best style secret? I try to invest in good basic pieces that will transcend time. I also try to take good care of my body and skin so getting dressed and putting on make-up is about fun instead of covering up.

Classic Comfortable Family

What’s your favorite way to spend time with your family? We love being outside together. We live in a beach community and love hunting for sea glass. Walking to town for ice cream or coffee is pretty fun too.

What’s been your best family vacation? We love the mountains in both the summer and the winter. We are skiers and the mountains in the summer are just plain magical. My husband works for Disney and we’ve had some pretty magical moments there too.

Best parenting advice: I am far from a perfect parent but I try really hard to praise my sons’ personhood over their performance.

Parenting true confession: I feel in over my head a lot of the time.

What’s your go-to family dinner? Lemon chicken or Greek Panzanella. Although maybe my parenting confession should have been that I don’t really love to cook?

What’s your favorite family restaurant? Bar Taco or the Meatball Shop in NYC

Classic Comfortable Life

What’s your favorite show to binge-watch? I love thrillers and am currently re-binging 24. The Office never fails to make me laugh and Friday Night Lights is such a feel-good show.

If you could pick anyone to star as you in a movie about your life, who would it be? Hard to choose, probably Jessica Chastain.

What’s your favorite beach read? Oh, I love books so much! The most important thing to me is that they are well-written. I don’t read many “beach reads” but I love WWII historical fiction and faith-based non-fiction. Pretty sure I’ve read Shauna Niequist’s Bittersweet about six times. I see my own story in her story of loss and hope and love the way she presents the relationship between pain and joy.

What song would you dance to when nobody’s watching? Ben Rector’s song, Fear is definitely an anthem for me. I’ve been known to dance to it in the car to get pumped up before I speak!

If you could go shopping with anyone from history, living or deceased, who would it be? I think Meghan Markle has impeccable taste. I would like her help! ☺What’s at the top of your travel bucket list? I would love to go back to France with my husband.

What’s your favorite way to unwind at the end of a long day? I am a bath person! I take a bath almost every night. Also, as a writer, my work feels like it is always with me so I need to read a novel or something totally different than what I am writing before I can go to sleep.
