Capturing the Classic Sparkle

What 3 words best describe your style? Classic. Bohemian. Sparkle. I love these three together because they work as a checks and balances system for the wardrobe. Classic shapes create a strong base for layering. The importance of classic shapes is closely followed by Bohemian layers. I love layering light materials and the whimsical details that bring heart to a wardrobe. Sparkle. In whatever department of life I’m working in, I love a subtle sparkle. It gives me personal joy to see a little glitter on my skin and always a piece of jewelry that shines.

What are your favorite places to shop? Anthropologie, BCBG, Free People, and Zara.

Who is your favorite style icon? I love Sienna Miller’s layering, patterns, and accessories.

Bohemian Sparkle Style Advice

What is your best style advice? Ask yourself who you want to be in the world? Choose items that you can endow with the power to help you realize those dreams.

What is your essential article of clothing? The Bohemian day jacket. It looks professional enough for a zoom meeting, but not so uptight that I can’t run an errand or go for a walk around the neighborhood.

Item NOT to make a comeback: Corduroy. Every time a company comes out with a new version, I try it and am continually disappointed. No offense to the Bear that goes by that name. He continues to be adorable.

Item TO make a comeback: Chokers. They come in and out, but they will always have a place in my heart and on my neck. I love the dramatic line and I love them layered with longer necklaces too.

Cringeworthy old photos: I have a photo of me wearing a thick red headband, against my permed long hair with an oversize matching red t-shirt. Those were dark days. Unfortunately, I can’t seem to locate that photo for this interview.

What is your best style secret? Mascara. Loreal Telescopic Blackest Black. As long as I can remember, I have loved this mascara. I have tried everything from low end to designer mascaras and this one takes the cake time and again.

What is your go-to shoe? All! Red Carpet=stilettos , Cocktails=wedges, Work=flats, Soccer Practice= Gym shoes. There is no “catch-all” when it comes to shoes.

A Family That Truly Sparkles

Favorite way to spend time with family: We love to have family game night. It’s so fun to learn something new together. We are constantly discovering new game experiences, most recently “Catan Jr.” and “Be A Broadway Star: The Game.”

What’s been your best family vacation? Our favorite family vacation was to a family ranch in upstate NY called “Rocking Horse Ranch.” It was a true getaway from big-city life and offered fun experiences that were family-centric, with horseback riding at its heart. There were tons of opportunities to discover nature together and it is a nod to simpler times.

Parenting True Confession: I accidentally knicked my son’s thumb when I was trimming his nails as a baby. It was the thumb he loved to suck. So much for self-soothing. Although he has no recollection, I have never gotten over it.

What’s your go-to family dinner? Making Homemade Meximelts is our family favorite. Ever since Taco Bell got rid of this classic on their menu, I have achieved hero status at home by creating my own recipe.

What’s your favorite family restaurant? Cilantro on NYC’s Upper West Side is a staple for our family when we are living in NYC. Great margaritas for the moms and great quesadillas for the kids. Everyone wins.

Bohemian Sparkle Life

Favorite Show to Binge Watch: Schitt’s Creek is a must-watch. Hilarious and heartwarming, Annie Murphy crafts the evolution of her character so well that you end up rooting for these unlikely heroes. Annie is playing my husband’s wife in the upcoming AMC show Kevin Can F*** Himself and I can’t wait to see how she shines.

If you could pick anyone to star as you in a movie based on your life, who would it be? Anne Hathaway. I love how she walks a great line between comic and dramatic acting. She is joyful, yet real in her depth.

What’s your favorite beach read? A friend recently passed me the classic “Class Mom” by Laurie Gelman. It was a fun and easy beach read.

What song would you dance to when nobody’s watching? “Love Song” by Sara Bareilles

If you could go shopping with anyone from history, living or deceased, who would it be? My Great-Grandma. We called her “Nanny” and I miss going out in public with her. She was joyful and loving and I always felt great peace and calmness when I was with her.

What’s at the top of your travel bucket list? Greece. The last show I ever did as a professional actor was “Mamma Mia” at Mandalay Bay Theater in Las Vegas from 2007- 2009. So while I spent a lot of time “on the island,” I’m looking forward to visiting the real deal someday.

What’s your favorite way to unwind at the end of a long day? A glass of wine and a sunset.
