dad on the street

Whether he’s enjoying the perfect day at Disneyland with his wife and daughter or out at the hockey rink, Active Trendy Dad on the Street Eric Chandaragga has great style!

Meet Eric

My name is Eric Chandaragga and I am a first-time dad. I’m lucky to be the father to Mila Grace and husband to my wife Nicole. I thank God for this life I live and its a very adventurous one. My family and I love to travel, seek adventure and cheer on our favorite sports teams. (Including the teams I play on, thanks to Nicole for always being at my games).

We are a big Disney Family and visit Disneyland as much as we can and try to visit Walt Disney World every year.  Family is important to me and if you follow me on Instagram you’ll see how much of an impact they have on my life. Feel free to follow my personal life @echandaragga and my newly created Dad Blog where I’ll be sharing my journey @journeyofadad.

Active Trendy Style

Which three words best describe your style? Casual, Active, and Trendy

What are your favorite places to shop? FreshClean Tees for my basics, ActiveFaith Sports Apparel and Nike for my activewear, and Target for basically anything else – I have bad shopping habits just like my wife. I’m not sure who has more shoes than the other.

What’s your best style advice? No matter what your style is, be confident in what you wear, and who you are. You can rock anything as long as you’re confident in it. Your style is you and no one else!

What fashion/style did you love at the time, but now cringe when you see old photos? I used to wear clothes that were way too big for me and pants were falling down. I thought it was the coolest thing but now looking back I have no idea what I was thinking. When I changed my style in college, I remember my mom asking me, “When did you become so stylish?” and that’s when it hit me, I never knew style before college.

What’s your dad superpower? No matter how tough the days are, I’m always able to find a way to make both mom and baby laugh and smile and end the day on a positive note.

Facial hair or clean-shaven? This one is tough as I tend to go back and forth between the two. I went clean-shaven for my wedding but I’m currently rocking the beard ever since having our baby. The wife is starting to like it and it’s the only thing my baby knows so I’m afraid to shave it right now. It definitely tickles her and makes her laugh so that always puts a smile on my face.

Active Trendy Family

What’s your favorite way to spend time with your family?  For me, it’s just being together. Don’t get me wrong, I love going to Disneyland with the family or taking a small hike together but I also love just being at home and all three of us are playing together, laughing together, and creating memories together. Any time I can have with my family is always well spent including all of us napping together!

Best parenting advice: Be honest, open, patient, and supportive of your partner. This is the time where teamwork truly comes into play and it takes both of you to be able to do this. Make sure to take care of yourselves while you’re at it. You and your partner are no help to the baby if both of you are not taking care of oneself. Give time to each other to rest, to relax, and to take a break from being a parent for a bit, in the long run, it only helps. Don’t be afraid to turn to your village. Your friends and family are there for you, they want to be and lean on those who have been through it before. I know without my wife, my friends, and my family, I wouldn’t be able to do this. What’s your favorite family restaurant? We’re biased, but we love going to our family restaurant in Pico Rivera, shameless plug – Zapien’s Salsa Grill and Taqueria.

Active Trendy Recreation

What’s your favorite show to binge-watch? When it comes to binge-watching I tend to go to my all-time favorites. I could easily watch and re-watch How I Met Your Mother, Friends, The Office and Boy Meets World all day long, any day at any time.

What’s your favorite sport and why? Being an athlete growing up I always loved all sports. I ran track and field in high school and college but I also grew up playing baseball, basketball, football, and hockey. I’ve recently joined a Hockey League to get back into and stay in shape so I would have to say hockey right now. It’s fun to watch and even more fun to play. There’s really no sport like it and playoff hockey is on right now and even though my Anaheim Ducks aren’t in it, it’s still exciting to watch.

If you could hang out with anyone from history, living or deceased, who would it be? John Wooden. He’s always been my idol and someone whom I look up to very much. He lived a life that you want to model off of. He loved his wife dearly, he coached his athletes with heart and passion, and he always so the positive in life.

What’s at the top of your travel bucket list? For me, it would have to be Alaska and Banff National Park in Canada. I’ve been fortunate enough to travel a lot in my life and have been to some amazing cities and countries. My wife and I recently checked off Iceland from our bucket list from our Honeymoon and in September we’ll get to check off Alaska as we will be going on a cruise!

What’s been your best family vacation? Our only family vacation so far has been a trip to Arizona. I have to say it was very nerve-racking traveling with a 4-month-old for the first time but it was one of the best trips we’ve ever had. The drive over went better than we expected and the time spent there was truly amazing. We got to take Mila to her first-ever Spring Training Baseball game and actually ended up going to three different games. She had so much fun just watching the games and being outside. Being one who travels often, I’m very excited about all the vacations we will take together as a family.

What’s your favorite way to unwind at the end of a long day? Right now it’s definitely helping put my daughter to bed. I know it doesn’t really sound like unwinding but after a day of work and not seeing her, being home and being able to kiss her goodnight and lay her down in her crib is an incredible feeling and always puts me in a better mood.
